The loss of a baby merges two uniquely and highly emotional life events: birth and death. Months of expectant anticipation, shattered by the stark realization of loss, forces new parents to face a confusing array of urgent decisions. Mothers recovering from labor and delivery may feel overwhelmed by the logistics of making funeral arrangements. Grieving fathers, family and friends may not know how to receive or offer comfort and support. It is during this time that parent families need AgapeCare Cradle most – to help them navigate their sea of grief.

AgapéCare Cradle began as one individual’s idea in 1997.   In 2003, a small founding board of volunteers formally began to plan AgapéCare Cradle’s ministry to provide specialized mortuary services that would help grieving families suffering through the loss of a baby family member.  Seven members incorporated AgapéCare Cradle as a Kansas nonprofit and became its founding board in July of 2003.  In 2004 the organization obtained federal 501(c) 3 status and in 2005 citizen volunteers converted an old office building into the very first Kansas nonprofit funeral establishment of its kind. AgapéCare Cradle is currently a nonprofit mortuary delivering critical and essential services to bereaved childbearing families in Sedgwick County.Â
